Ace climbs to tie for first place, TRIA wins
Edina, MN - It was a big night of games from Braemar Arena as there were a pair of Celly and Dangle League games with a Hendrickson Foundation Wild Special Hockey Women’s game. The top two teams squared off in the opening game of the evening. Ace Hardware cruised to their 4th win in a row and earned a tie for first place in the standings with Lake Cowgirl and TRIA defeated Tradition Mortgage 7-3 in a game that was closer than the score indicated.
Ace Hardware 5 - Lake Cowgirl 1
Goal scoring continued to be at a premium for Ace Hardware as they dented the twine 5 times to defeat Lake Cowgirl 5-1 in a showdown of the top two teams in the Celly League.
Taylor Otremba (MSU) had a goal and 3 assists while her MSU teammate Bella Shipley (MSU) had a goal and assist. Shipley was joined by Addi Scribner (SCSU) 1g-1a and Lindzi Avar (Cornell) 2 assists as players with multi-point games for Ace.
Katelyn Roberts (Penn State) opened the scoring early for Lake Cowgirls after taking a pass from Josie Hemp (Vermont) who was waiting on the breakout. Roberts had plenty of ice and after gaining the zone ripped a shot past Ace goaltender Carly Greene (Sacred Heart) just under three minutes in the game. That would be all Ace would get as Greene turned aside 17 of 18 Lake Cowgirl shots to earn the win in goal.
Ace took over the rest of the way and had an impeccable transition game that led to a number of uncharacteristic defensive zone coverage lapses for Lake Cowgirl. Ace now has scored a league leading 30 goals with the next closest team Lake Cowgirls with 17. Otremba continued her torrid production increasing her point totals on the year to 5g-4a-9pts in five games played which leads her team and the league. .
The win earned 3 points in the standings for Ace and leveled them atop the league with 12 points and identical 4-1 records.
TRIA 7 - Tradition Mortgage 3
Audrey Garton’s (MSU) hat trick was key to TRIA’s 7-3 win over Tradition Mortgage and her second goal stood up as the eventual game winner. Lauren O’Hara (MInnesota) 1g-1a and Isa Goettl (BSU) 2a also were impactful on the scoresheet Thursday night from Braemar Arena.
The game was a back and forth affair that saw the game tied at 3 on a goal by Tradition’s Grace Delmonico (SCSU) Ella Huber (Minnesota) and Avery Chesek (Yale) each scored for Tradition and for Huber she now has 2g-2a-4pts on the season. Huber is tied for the team lead in points with Meredith Jensen (Dartmouth) 3g-1a-4pts.
Goaltending tag-team of Hailey Hanson (MSU) and Kaitlin Groess (BSU) continue to make waves in the league with outstanding play.
The win marks the second straight for TRIA who now hold sole possession of third place in the five team league and are just one win away from a championship round game as the first and second place teams will play in the championship game to close out the season. The loss drops Tradition Mortgage to 0-5 on the season and they will be looking to pick up their first win of the campaign next week as The Celly League returns next Tuesday night for a pair of games.
